The Brooklyn Navy Yard Cogeneration facility
supplies critical electricity and steam to New York
City. Situated on an historic site, the plant has
earned a series of awards and was the first
cogeneration plant to be accepted into both the U.S.
EPA National Environmental Performance Track and
OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program in 2006. These
two voluntary programs recognize companies committed
to environmental excellence and outstanding
workplace safety.
Power Magazine received more than 100 nominations
for its annual issue, representing a wide range of
plant types and technologies. The editors typically
showcase plants that have implemented a design or
technology innovation, are highly efficient or
environmentally focused. The July/August 2006 issue
of the magazine features in-depth articles on each
of the 12 Top Plants.
